ALBUQUERQUE MUSEUM
Situated in an emerging center of cultural venues and commercial activity, the existing museum was built in 1978 on the northeast boundary of the historic Old Town district. The re-imagined site design reorients the museum’s main entrance and expands sculpture gardens and grounds to accommodate a growing collection of over 50 significant works of sculpture and a variety of outdoor history exhibits. The Phase I museum design concept treats major program components like sculptural elements surrounding a voluminous light-filled lobby. A variety of materials, including local stone, metal, plaster, glass and wood reinforce the design concept and contribute to the institution’s fresh new identity.
A second phase is currently underway and will include a complete renovation of the museum’s history gallery and a new photo archives space.
